Whilst treatments to improve the signs of ageing and sun-damage to the face have been used for some time, treatments for hands have largely been ignored. BOTOX® and dermal filler treatments are commonplace to help people turn back the clock, but one’s hands are deemed to show the “tell tale signs” of ageing.
As we get older, and especially in women, the skin of the back of the hand loses its volume and hydration, becoming thinner and revealing prominent veins and resulting in a more bony appearance.
Various treatments can be employed to improve the look of one’s hands such as moisturisers with SPF such as Daily Moisturising Protector SPF25 from Agera Rx..
For Age- spots the use of a Pigment controlling product such as Agera Rx Phyto-lightening Cream and Mag C Peptide Serum can be helpful.
Chemical Skin Peels can also be used to freshen up the skin and stimulate collagen production.
Deep Hydration using "Juvederm Hydrate"
Juvéderm® HYDRATE offers deep hydration to give you smoother, firmer skin in areas that are often susceptible to sun damage and the signs of aging— the face, neck, décolletage, and hands. Hydration is fundamental to healthy skin tone and elasticity, and maintaining a natural, healthy glow. Creams can only temporarily moisturize the skin at the surface, but Juvéderm® HYDRATE can provide the deep, lasting hydration that will give you a natural, healthy glow.
What is the “Hand Lift”?
For hands that have lost significant volume and where simply hydration may not benefit, the use of Radiesse can restore volume and hydration instantly, with results that can last for upto 18 months!
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse® is a dermal filler made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. Once injected into your skin, Radiesse dermal filler works with your own body in a remarkable way. Upon injection, it immediately adds volume to safely contour, correct, and beautify your skin. Unlike other fillers, Radiesse dermal filler continues to work over time. The Radiesse forms a scaffold structure in the skin and with its patented microsphere technology, starts a process called collagenesis, stimulating your body to produce new collagen by encouraging collagen to grow around the the injection area. After a while the scaffold is naturally broken down by the body leaving behind the new collagen.
Is it safe?
RADIESSE dermal filler has been clinically tested extensively for years, with excellent safety and efficacy results. It has received CE mark certification, two FDA approvals, and a number of FDA clearances. RADIESSE dermal filler is made from a biocompatible substance that’s identical to what’s naturally found in the body.
What happens during the treatment?
The treatment is straight forward and uses a very fine needle to place small amounts of Radiesse beneath the surface of the skin in your hands. The treatment takes about twenty minutes and is has minimal discomfort as a local anaesthetic is used during the treatment.
It is advised to continue to massage the areas after injection but most people find that they can return to work soon after the procedure.
What Results can be expected?
Radiesse treatments should last between 18 months and 2 years before retreatment will be required. Although most patients achieve an impressive result after the first treatment, a small touch up treatment may be required at about 3-4 months after the initial Radiesse Hand treatment.
