What is Genuine Dermaroller Collagen Induction Therapy?
Genuine Dermaroller Therapy is a procedure that involves advanced micro-medical skin-needling, a procedure that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely, creating smoother, brighter, healthier, younger-looking skin.
There are several different brands available, but at Skin Etc we only use the “Genuine Dermaroller” as it is the only version which is backed by studies done in the USA and can only be used by trained medical practitioners.
Where can it be used?
Genuine Dermaroller Therapy can be used on potentially any part of the body to significantly improve the appearance of:
- Acne scars
- Aged and sun damaged skin
- Facial and décolleté lines and wrinkles
- Stretch marks
How does it work?
The principle of Genuine Dermaroller and skin needling is to stimulate the body’s own production of collagen.
This is done by using a sterile roller comprised of a series of fine, sharp needles to puncture the skin. The procedure is done under topical anaesthetic which is applied for half an hour over the area to be treated beforehand.
The Genuine Dermaroller is then rolled over the surface of the skin in several different directions creating hundreds of microscopic channels deep into the dermis of the skin, which stimulate your own body to produce new collagen. This then helps to improve damaged skin, lift acne scars, smooth wrinkles and rejuvenate the skin.
The needles used therapeutically are 1.5mm long, and so are designed to penetrate deep into the skin to produce safe but effective results and can only be used as a professional treatment by a trained medical practitioner. Smaller needle sized rollers of 0.2mm are available to be used at home as maintenance treatments or for general skin rejuvenation.
What are the results?
Genuine Dermaroller treatments lead to the skin becoming thicker with more than a 400% increase in collagen deposition. This helps to smooth out wrinkles and stretch marks, lift out acne scars and improve the texture of damaged skin. Any part of the body can be treated safely and Genuine Dermaroller treatments can be performed on all skin types including Asian and Black Skins.
Results have been compared to those produced by peels and even resurfacing lasers!
How long does the procedure take?
After an initial consultation, you may be asked to prepare and support the skin for several weeks prior to the treatment with specialised medical creams containing antioxidants. These will help produce better results and reduce any downtime further. It is strongly suggested to use a high factor (SPF30+) sunblock prior to treatment as well as after to protect the skin from sundamage
On the day of treatment, the skin will be numbed using a special topical anaesthetic cream for around half an hour prior to treatment. The treatment time is usually about 30minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.
Are there any Side Effects?
After treatment, the skin is usually pink or red like a mild sunburn, and occasionally there may be minor bruising. However most people notice a significant reduction in this redness over the next several hours and are able to return to work the following day. Some patients who may have had aggressive treatment (for severe lines or scarring) may take slightly longer to recover. The use of high factor (SPF 30+) sunblock post procedure for several weeks is highly recommended.
How quickly do I see results?
After a Genuine Dermaroller Therapy procedure your body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface in the dermis. This takes time as new collagen is formed, new skin cells are generated and blood supply is enhanced. It can take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long lasting enhancement.
At Skin Etc we normally recommend a series of three Genuine Dermaroller procedures with approximately 6-8 weeks between them.
In the treatment of acne scars and other types of scarring it may be necessary for your practitioner to extend your Genuine Dermaroller Therapy, carrying out up to five procedures.
